Our Little Corner of the World...Visiting Brisbane Australia!!!

Our first port...Brisbane!
So we signed up for the off road trek...
Now when we signed up for an off road trek, we were thinking open air jeeps...
driving through the Australian version of a forest...
seeing kangaroos and lot's of interesting terrain and wildlife.

OK...we were in air conditioned 4 wheel drive Mercedes type super vans!!!
And yes...we did drive off road over some bumps and dips in the road...
but not quite what we were imagining!
Join me in exploring the off road adventure in Brisbane!

Our first stop...for tea!
Cute little spot...pretty little church around the corner...
and interesting plants!

Next stop...Tamborine National Park...
our Aussie jungle experience!

Imagine a heavy rain...the roots of the tree making a virtual bath tub...
Time for a bath?

This tree had interesting root structures that intertwined with the original trunk...

Some interesting fungii...

And our first wildlife sighting!!!
A small group of kangaroos off in the distance,
sharing the space with a herd of cattle!

"Kookaburra in an old gum tree.
Merry, merry king of the brush is he.
Laugh, Kookaburra, laugh, Kookabura,
How gay your life must be..."
Sooo...I'm not a %100 certain he's a Kookaburra...
but he pretty much looks the part!!!

Ok...getting ready to throw the boomerang...
nice form...

Throwing like a boy?  Nope...didn't work...
pretty much straight into the ground!!!

Throwing like a girl...

Ramona nails it!!!
Great girl form!!!

Next up...Dick...
we won't even go there...

The road back to our port.

Some of the Australian flora I was looking for!

More kangaroos!!!
Or...
Isn't that the same group?

Next stop...an Australian winery!

While we were there, this lovely wedding was going on in the back forty...

The lovely wine plantation building!

The view on our way back to the ship...

I just couldn't resist playing with the shadows in these mountains...

An afternoon beer to refresh after a long day in port...

And just some random guy against a cool backdrop...
couldn't resist the pic!!!

Next stop...Airlie Beach!!!

  3. An airconditioned benz sounds like a pretty nice upgrade, but, like you, I'd prefer to have the wind, dust and smells. I never think of jungles when I think of Australia, a nice surprise for me.

  4. Oh, ohhhh...Queensland! SO beautiful, especially those beautiful Queensland Colonial houses with the spreading verandas...somewhere, in a trunk, I have some lovely B&W photos of those, taken by my artist brother, then 14. I took him (from Vancouver, BC) to visit Australia in 1980 or '81. A friend drove us all around Queensland, and we loved it. I cuddled a koala at a sanctuary. We saw lots of 'roos and 'wobblies' and even sailed in a retired racing yacht. No airconditioned Mercedes, but wonderful adventures. My young artist brother could spot a kookaburra on top of a pole from a mile off (I exaggerate, of course).
Before flying home out of Sydney, he and I saw a play (a comedy) in Sydney, and loved that, too.
Thanks for your post here for Our World Tuesday. Brought back lots of wonderful old memories.
