On Flander's Fields...

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row by row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead.  Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

John McCrae, May 1915

In honor of all the fallen in service to our country,
and to those who served gallantly and returned,
and to those who bravely serve our country now...
We honor you.

Thank you for your service.

View from the Queen Mary...

"Once you have traveled, the voyage never ends...
The mind can never break off from the journey."
Pat Conroy

The Long Beach cityscape from the Queen Mary!

Fooling around trying to get a pic of the city lights through the
porthole...not an easy task!
Between the inside lights reflections on the porthole window...
to trying to get the city lights in focus instead of the porthole!
All hand held...should have been a tripod and long exposure...
and should have done a little focus trickery so that both
the porthole and cityscape was in focus...
ahhh well...
It is what it is!

Struttin'

"Indeed, an engineer designing a structure is not
unlike an artist painting one.
Both start with nothing but talent,
experience and inspiration.
The fresh piece of paper on the drawing board
is as blank as the newly stretched piece of canvas."
Henry Petroski
