Our Little Corner of the World...Wrapping up Arizona!

Southern California gardens have been going more native...
...fortunately I haven't seen much of this cactus!

You really don't want to get too near it...
...it drops little babies on the ground around it...
and those little babies like to grab onto whatever is near!!!
Ouch!!!

Cactus is not exactly a friendly plant...
but it sure is interesting to shoot!!!

This one is definitely the friendliest of the bunch...

Sooo...in my first post about our little trip to Arizona
I mentioned our friends had bought a house and just moved in...

...yep...

I'm jealous too!
Beautiful home...but this view and the backyard is what I think they really bought it for!!!

  1. Great shots! Those cactus are so beautiful mostly when backlit. I can imagine the risk when you said the babies will cling on to anything that come near, very prickly! The only cactus i know are the miniatures we see during garden shows, which i kill because i cannot refrain from watering.

  2. They are attractive plants - but best from a distance I think!

  6. Yep, I'm more than a little bit jelly about that house. Nice photos!
I hate cholla cactus. They call it "jumping cholla" because if one thorn sticks to you, a whole section flings off the plant and onto you. Or so it seems...

I've been attacked by these things so many times, that I carry a "cholla kit" with me. The kit consists of a hair comb and a pair of tweezers. The comb is the best tool to remove the cholla ball from you. Then the tweezers to pull out the thorns that stayed in you.

  7. Gorgeous cacti! They're probably not so endearing if you have to deal with them all the time. That view is outstanding!
